Want to learn plants? There are tools like iNaturalist to help. However, like cursive writing is to absorbing knowledge, there is much more to be gained by making the acquaintance of a plant, familiar or otherwise with a sketch to will reveal much that might otherwise be left unknown. The shape of a leaf, how it joins the stem, the arrangement of its parts, what is easy to overlook when the plant is reduced to a name on a screen. Writing field notes does something similar. It is a slower way of finding out what you are looking at, and considerably more advantageous than a copy-and-paste version of the modern path. -Chad
